BRIHANNA REID
Brihanna is someone who is deeply rooted in creativity. From make-up to cooking, she describes these practices as more than just hobbies, they are therapeutic, grounding, and a way for her to express herself. Influenced by her mum, a hairdresser, she has grown up around creativity, and over time, has made it her own.
At this point in her life, Brihanna is learning the importance of rest. With the demands of school and the pressure of “a million and one things to do,” she’s beginning to put herself first, recognising that slowing down, having space, and protecting her energy matters. Joy, for her, is found in simple but meaningful moments, especially spending time with her friends, knowing that soon they will all go on to different paths.
Her journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Brihanna speaks honestly about having to grow through moments where she was more reactive and less focused, navigating school in a way that didn’t always reflect her potential. But what stands out is her self-awareness and her decision to change. She has worked hard to become more patient, more intentional, and more focused on her future.
That shift has already begun to open doors. Being awarded a scholarship and receiving mentorship gave her something to work towards, a sense of direction that helped her stay grounded and move forward with purpose.
Now, Brihanna is focused on what comes next. With aspirations to study Management and Administration and build a future in real estate, she is thinking beyond what is typically expected, especially as a young Black woman. She wants more, and she is actively working towards it.
When asked who she is becoming, she shares:
“I’m becoming the person I wanted to be — more confident, less shy.”
Community plays an important role in that journey. For Brihanna, it is something that shapes character, builds courage, and helps you understand yourself more deeply. And while support hasn’t always been consistent, she has continued to rise, holding onto the things that give her hope and direction.
Being recognised as part of The Salute meant more than she expected. What she thought would be something small became something deeply affirming, a moment where she felt truly seen.
Looking ahead, Brihanna sees herself stepping into the world with intention, completing her education, entering the real estate space, and beginning to build something of her own.
